In short
- The site has no forms, sign-up, comments, newsletter, advertising or cookies.
- It uses cookie-free analytics (Umami) that only give aggregated visit statistics: it doesn't store the IP address or let the owner identify anyone.
- The host (GitHub Pages) logs the IP address of each visit for security reasons.
- If you write by email, your data is used only to reply to you.
1. Data controller
Controller of the website and of the processing described in this policy, except that carried out by providers as independent controllers (section 4):
Owner: Qué IA uso (an independent, non-commercial project). Contact: queiausar@gmail.com
2. What data is processed
Server logs. When you visit the site, the GitHub Pages server technically logs your connection's IP address, the date and time of the request and technical browser data, as happens on any website. GitHub states that it keeps the IP of visitors to pages hosted on GitHub Pages «for security purposes», regardless of whether they are signed in to GitHub (GitHub Pages documentation). The owner has no access to those logs and does not use them.
Visit statistics (Umami). Each page loads a small Umami Cloud script that sends Umami the page visited, the referring page (referrer), the page title, the browser language and the screen size; from this Umami infers the browser, operating system, device type and country or region. The IP address is used only to calculate that approximate location and is not stored. To count unique visitors without cookies, Umami computes an identifier from a hash of the IP, the browser, the site and a «salt» that changes every month, so the same person cannot be tracked from one month to the next or across sites (Umami definitions). The owner only sees aggregated statistics (visits, most viewed pages, referrers, countries, browsers); they do not see IP addresses or identify anyone. Umami uses no cookies and stores nothing on your device.
Email. If you write to queiausar@gmail.com, your email address and whatever you include in the message will be processed.
Theme and currency preferences. If you choose light or dark mode or the price currency (€ or $), your browser stores that choice on your own device (see the cookie policy). This setting is not sent to any server.
Details of your computer. On the local AI page you can enter your graphics card memory, your RAM, your free disk space and whether you use a Mac. They are used only in your browser to work out which models fit, are stored on your device and are never sent to any server.
Apart from the Umami analytics script (cloud.umami.is), the site does not load fonts, scripts, images or other third-party resources: logos and all other files are served from the site's own domain. External links only open if you click them; from then on, the destination site's privacy policy applies.
3. Purpose and legal basis
- Server logs: to ensure the security and operation of the hosting service and prevent abuse. Legal basis: legitimate interest (article 6.1.f of Regulation (EU) 2016/679, GDPR).
- Email: to handle your enquiry or request to exercise your rights. Legal basis: legitimate interest in replying to whoever writes (art. 6.1.f GDPR) and, for rights requests, compliance with a legal obligation (art. 6.1.c GDPR).
- Theme and currency preferences: to remember your choice on your device; it is storage strictly necessary for a service you request (art. 22.2 LSSI-CE).
- Visit statistics (Umami): to know in aggregate how many visits the site receives, which pages are read and where visitors come from, in order to improve the content. Legal basis: legitimate interest (art. 6.1.f GDPR). It has been weighed that the data is minimal, no cookies are used, the IP is not stored, nobody can be identified or tracked, and you can object at any time (see «Your rights» and the cookie policy).
No profiling or automated decision-making takes place.
4. Recipients, providers and international transfers
GitHub, Inc. (88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. St., San Francisco, CA 94107, United States) hosts the site and processes the server logs in accordance with its privacy statement. This involves an international data transfer to the United States, covered by the European Commission's adequacy decision on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, under which GitHub is certified (check the certification), and, additionally, on standard contractual clauses.
Umami Software, Inc. (28 Geary St, Suite 650 #243, San Francisco, California, United States) provides the Umami Cloud analytics service as data processor, with the data hosted in its European Union region (Umami privacy policy, data processing agreement). Umami is a US company and some of its sub-processors (for example, the network that delivers the script) are in the United States (list of sub-processors); any international transfers that may occur are covered by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses included in its data processing agreement.
OVH SAS (France, European Union) is the domain registrar and provides the DNS and email service, so it processes messages sent to the contact address (OVHcloud privacy policy).
No data is shared with other third parties, except where legally required.
5. Retention period
- Server logs: GitHub keeps them for the period set out in its privacy statement; the owner keeps no copy.
- Emails: the time needed to reply and, after that, at most one year, unless they must be kept longer due to a legal obligation or to handle possible claims.
- Umami statistics: for the retention period of the plan contracted with Umami Cloud (6 months on the free plan; 2 or 5 years on paid plans); after that they are deleted.
- Theme and currency preferences: until you delete them from your browser.
- Details of your computer: until you press “Delete my data” or delete them from your browser.
6. Your rights
You can exercise your rights of access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction of processing and portability (articles 15 to 22 of the GDPR), free of charge, by writing to queiausar@gmail.com with the subject «Data protection» and stating which right you wish to exercise. If there are reasonable doubts about your identity, you may be asked for additional information to confirm it. You will receive a reply within one month, extendable by two more months in complex cases, as provided by the GDPR.
Regarding the logs kept by GitHub, you can also contact GitHub directly (dpo[at]github.com), as it is the party that holds them.
To object to Umami statistics you don't need to write: turn on «Do Not Track» in your browser, use a content blocker or click «Don't count my visits» on the cookie policy. Since Umami does not store your IP or data that could identify you, it is normally not possible to locate your past visits to give you access to them or delete them.
If you believe your rights have not been respected, you can file a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (aepd.es), C/ Jorge Juan, 6, 28001 Madrid.
7. Minors
The site is not specifically aimed at minors and does not intentionally collect data. People under 14 should not send data by email without the consent of their parents or guardians (article 7 of Spanish Organic Law 3/2018, LOPDGDD).
8. Security
The site is always served over HTTPS. Since there are no accounts or forms, no passwords or visitor data are stored on the site.
9. Changes to this policy
This policy will be updated if the data processing changes; in particular, before adding other analytics, advertising, affiliate links, forms or any other third-party service. The current version is always the one published on this page, with its update date.
Applicable regulations: Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR), Spanish Organic Law 3/2018 on Data Protection and Guarantee of Digital Rights (LOPDGDD) and Spanish Law 34/2002 on information society services and electronic commerce (LSSI-CE).
